a5c7b9f00b Returning home with his father after a shopping expedition, Wong Fei-Hong is unwittingly caught up in the battle between foreigners who wish to export ancient Chinese artifacts and loyalists who don't want the pieces to leave the country. Fei-Hong has learned a style of fighting called "Drunken Boxing", which makes him a dangerous person to cross. Unfortunately, his father is opposed to his engaging in any kind of fighting, let alone drunken boxing. Consequently, Fei-Hong not only has to fight against the foreigners, but he must overcome his father's antagonismwell.
A young martial artist is caught between respecting his pacifist father's wishes or stopping a group of disrespectful foreigners from stealing precious artifacts.
Okay, several years ago my brother got me a wide screen, subtitled tape of this and I was really impressed. This is the best Kung Fu film Jackie has ever done and it is pushing up there on the listone of the best ever. It is fun, funny and not at all mind numbing. It has some of the best choreographed fight scenes I have ever seen and it actually has a strong realistic plot, though it bears little resemblance to the real life of Wong Fei-hung. He has been lost in myth and the over one hundred movies that have been made about him.<br/><br/>This movie is not of the caliber, class or for that matter genre of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but the fight scenes can hold up on their own [notmany wires : )] and in terms of quality and hard work it is way up there. And like Crouching Tiger you definitely need to watch it with subtitles. Many of Jackie's films convert well into English, but this one looses a lot with the translation. So if you can get a subtitled uncut version of this, do it and enjoy.<br/><br/>I give this a 10 out of 10.
I have just seen this movie and my mouth never shut for a second, the stunts are amazing, the action is incredible, there is even a plot of sorts and the comedy is tip-top for Jackie Chan. I can see why this movie was voted so highly, it has a nice fast pace and it never ceases to amaze. I am going to stop writing now so I can go and see it again.
The film delivers some of the most spectacular and intricately choreographed martial arts fighting ever seen on film.
One has to differentiate between three versions. They only differ in the final scene. The International Version misses the whole finishing scene. In the US-Version this finishing scene is slightly longer, only the final shots have been cut. The only uncensored version can be found on the Chinese DVD.
